Maxine Wright, Resident Teacher

Compassion Kadampa Buddhist Center

Maxine Wright has been both a student and a teacher of Buddhism in the New Kadampa Tradition since 2001. Her studies have included General Meditation, Advanced Studies and the Teacher Training Program.

Maxine became interested in Buddhism after a series of unfortunate incidences occurred in her life. She had long been aware of the fact that life seemed rather meaningless and she knew in her heart that there had to be something more. Her search and commitment to finding that meaning was precipitated by the death of six family members and two pets within a short span of time.

Maxine met the teachings of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso soon thereafter and felt great relief and joy at discovering the Dharma (teachings) that was being offered. Suddenly, the hidden meaning of life's purpose was clear and her life took on new vigor.

It was 2004 however, before her new faith was tested and her deep passion for Buddhist teachings was sealed. Maxine's own battle with cancer led to her greatest personal discovery……she realized in her darkest hour that she wanted to survive for the sole purpose of teaching dharma to others. She felt if she could show others the way out of suffering, they too could enjoy the deep and lasting happiness that she was now experiencing in her life.

Maxine say's: "Everyone faces serious illness, if they live long enough. Everyone loses people they love. Everyone has major disappointments in life. We are all equal in this. If Buddha's teachings helped me, they could help others. My life purpose was now simple and clear: share the support, meaning, hope, and peace that is available in Buddha's teachings."

There is a special bond between Compassion Kadampa Center and Maxine, for she was close dharma friends with the practitioner whose inspiration birthed the center. In Maxine's words: "I feel blessed to have the opportunity to share these meaningful teachings, at this particular center, with this cherished community."

And we, at Compassion Kadampa Center, feel blessed to have Maxine guiding our way. We feel her deep sincerity, faith and commitment in every word she speaks. She introduces Buddha's teachings in ways that are easily applicable to daily life and her rich life experience lends depth and understanding to any issue we may ever face. All of this wrapped up in a jubilant and delightful delivery of a profound yet essential method to following the Buddha's way of life.

May Compassion Kadampa Buddhist Center, an integral part of the world-wide Kadampa family, bring happiness and peace of mind to all.
